Man Jailed for Animal Abuse in Famagusta

OLOI TEAM

A 37-year-old man was sentenced to 14 months in prison for animal abuse and illegal residency.

This case came to light on May 7, 2025, when police got a tip about an animal being butchered in a parking lot of an apartment building in free Famagusta. They found the butchered animal, identified as a kangaroo by Veterinary Services, along with the tools used.

Investigations revealed that the 37-year-old was living in Cyprus illegally, as his asylum request was denied in 2022.

This conviction sends a clear message that animal abuse is taken very seriously and that the law is enforced strictly, with zero tolerance.

The Cyprus Police, along with Veterinary Services, is committed to investigating every report of animal abuse or illegal possession. The public is encouraged to help by reporting any information right away, aiding in the fight against these issues.
