The Teachers Union is taking a stronger stand against the proposed Teacher Evaluation Plan. They warn that new protests, including strikes, could happen.
In a resolution approved by the Pan-Cyprian Conference of General Representatives on December 18 in Nicosia, the union demands that the bill be stopped, calling the process ‘unprecedented and unacceptable.’
The Teachers Union says the bill is being pushed without real dialogue. They point out serious gaps and ambiguities, which change teachers’ working conditions. They note that evaluation criteria are still undefined, inspections and bureaucracy in schools are increasing, and more inspectors will be hired at a high public cost.
They also remind us that the plan was rejected by most teachers in a referendum on May 29, 2025. Given this, the Pan-Cyprian Conference allows the Central Administrative Council of the Teachers Union to take further action before the bill’s vote in Parliament on December 22, 2025.
